In Japan (like most countries) the author of the story owns the story and controls its use. The author of HOTD is Daisuke Sato. Daisuke Sato is a notoriously unreliable author, he has trouble finishing anything.

Daisuke Sato partnered with Shouji Sato more than 5 years ago to produce the HOTD manga. They completed about 20 acts together. They were published in a popular manga magazine in Japan called Dragon Age. Daisuke stopped writing a couple times so the manga stopped then started back up when he wrote a bit more. Shouji can not continue HOTD without Daisuke because Daisuke owns it.

The HOTD manga became popular and an anime was financed and produced by a company in Japan called Madhouse (they have made a lot of good anime). The HOTD anime wasn’t a huge hit in Japan but it was really popular outside Japan, including the US. Madhouse actually expected to make a season 2. They sent a few people to an anime convention in the US to promote season 1 to drum up even more support.

Shortly after the first season of HOTD was complete Daisuke Sato had heart trouble that put him in the hospital. Shouji Sato (the guy drawing the manga) and Madhouse (the people making the anime) expected that Daisuke would get better and start writing again. They held tight, still expecting to make more manga and a season 2.

A major earthquake hit Japan causing a tsunami that killed more than 20,000 people in Japan. Daisuke said he didn’t feel it was appropriate to write about an apocalypse while Japan was going through one, so he continued to delay making more HOTD.

While all this was going on, Shouji Sato needed to make a living so he started another manga called Triage X. This was printed in the Dragon Age magazine to fill the spot HOTD had left. It was only meant to be temporary while Daisuke got back on his feet and started writing again.

Just over a year ago there was a big hoopla about Act 30 of the HOTD manga being published. It was a big deal, even released in english in the US the same day it was printed in Japan. Some people say it was a test to see if HOTD was still popular.

The month before act 30 came out in Japan, an interview with Daisuke Sato was published in Dragon Age magazine. In that interview Daisuke Sato talked about where he planned to take the story past Act 30, why he stopped writing and that he had started again. Everything looked good.

There have been no new chapters of the manga past act 30, no one has said why but there are some obvious conclusions. Note: there is not enough HOTD manga to base season 2 on. The manga needs to come first.

Shouji Sato has been a fairly independent manga illustrator. Not sure how many people he may have working for or with him but it may still only be him. Along with Triage X he writes another manga called Fire Fire Fire. He is also a hentai artist and that takes up some of his time. So he is pretty busy now.

Shouji has completed a lot more acts of Triage X than there were of HOTD and Triage X has become popular (enough) that an anime of it is now being made. Based on Shouji’s posts on his blog he seems really involved in the anime and is very excited about it.

Its very likely HOTD has been put on the back burner for Triage X. So even if Daisuke Sato has written or writes more story, Shouji may not have the time to draw the manga.

So the triage x is it like HOTD.. And r u saying that there still is hope if he gets done with this anime he will start it up again or wat.. And what if the other guy dies then what HOTD dies with him that would suck because that anime is soo great I really want to watch more zombie apocolyptic animes now
