You are correct sir, it did say that. But also consider the other things that happened around the time that was released in Japan, it was back in 2011. More than 2.5 years ago.

its clear that both FujimiShobo thought the manga would continue, and Madhouse thought the anime would continue, but major stuff happened back then and it all stopped. Its really been struggling to get going again.

March 2011: manga Act 29 releases (at the end it states Act 30 would be in May 2011, never happened until 2 years later)
March 2011: devastating earthquake and tsunami hit japan
Daisuke Sato hospitalized with heart disease, not sure when he actually ended up in the hospital but it was likely in 2011.
April 2011: OVA ‘Drifters of the Dead’ bundled with seventh volume of manga in Japan. Season 2 is mentioned at the end. This was a delayed release of this OVA, as I understand it, it was supposed to come out earlier that year.

As you already know, nothing really happened after all that until early this year when Act 30 was released. Then it all stopped again.

Truth about HOTD, at least as I see it. This is my opinion from facts based research. 🙂

Daisuke Sato wrote the story, he owns the story and without him, HOTD goes no where.

Shouji Sato Illustrated the HOTD manga, he does not control HOTD, so he can not continue it without Daisuke.

The HOTD manga started quite a few years ago and was/is published in FujimiShobo’s Dragon Age magazine, a monthly magazine that comes out in Japan each month on the 9th. The magazine is about 2” thick and has lots of different manga in it. HOTD was just one of many. Shouji even has another manga, Triage X that he both writes and illustrates that is printed in Dragon Age from time to time. it is very likely Shouji started Triage X because Daisuke was so unreliable in regards to HOTD.

The HOTD manga was popular in 2009 and 2010, so an anime based on the manga was approved. Madhouse, an anime studio, created the first season based on the Daisuke Sato’s story and Shouji Sato’s illustration. The HOTD anime is a ‘late night’ anime, so it didn’t make as much money as the daytime anime, people think this means it wasn’t liked in Japan. But it was still fairly popular, so don’t listen to the people who say it wasn’t.

There was every intent for both the manga and the anime to continue. The last HOTD page of most of the published manga acts in the FujimiShobo magazine indicated when the next act would appear, including act 29, which said it would return on May 9th of that year (it never did).

The anime studio also thought there would be a season 2. They released the OVA ‘Drifters of the Dead’ as a teaser for season 2 and at the end actually say season 2 is coming. It never did. During the 2011 anime expo in the US, Madhouse was talking at one of the panels through a translator. The video is posted on this site. We know something was up, and can tell that he knew something was up, because of the politically correct answer the director gave. He basically said there would be a season 2 if they had everyone’s support. The fans of course think he meant them, but in reality he was talking about Daisuke Sato’s support. Remember the guy who wrote and controls the HOTD story, at that time Daisuke had stopped writing again.

Daisuke Sato is a very slow writer. He has stopped writing several times, causing lengthy breaks between the manga releases. According to the Japanese wiki page on him, he hasn’t finished much of anything. Seems he has a habit of starting projects but never finishing them.

Shouji Sato went to AnimagiC in Germany Jul – 2012 to sign autographs and basically drum up support for his Triage X (and also HOTD). Shouji was asked a lot of questions about HOTD by fans dressed in HOTD cosplay. Based on his responses it was clear he didn’t know when HOTD would return, but he said that he thought it would. When Shouji went back to Japan he must have talked to Daisuke, because Daisuke talked about Shouji’s trip and the fans outside Japan (this was in an interview published with act 30 of the manga in Japan). Pictures of some of those German fans at AnimagiC are printed in the color edition of HOTD that came out in Japan recently.

Speaking of act 30 and Spring 2013, the people who run this web site knew all the talk about HOTD returning in the Spring of 2013 was just about the manga. They choose instead to expand that to the anime, since this site is basically just about the anime, and they are trying to drive people to this site for ad revenue, they intentionally mis lead people. Even though no one ever has said anything about the anime since 2011.

We do know that Daisuke Sato wrote act 30 in late 2012 or early 2013 and most likely a bit more, he alludes to that in the interview that appeared along side act 30 in Japan. What no one knows is actually how much Daisuke has written and when any future manga acts will be published. Even FujimiShobo didn’t know when they published act 30 early this year, when an act 31 would come out. They were pretty clear about that in the Japanese version they published.

More to consider when people make specific statements about when season 2 will return.
Season 1 was announced by reputable anime sites and the studio way before it came out. So don’t believe anyone unless its coming from the creators like Madhouse, or someplace reputable like Anime News Network. Trust me, they will not keep it a secret, we will know well in advance of its release. BTW: this site is not reputable, they proved it when they lied to us about the anime returning in Spring 2013.

It took 5 months for Madhouse to make Season 1, so don’t expect season 2 for at least 6 months after an official announcement, and it will need to land on an anime season schedule in Japan.

Season 1 was based on 600 pages of manga, so far there are only about 420 to 450 pages of new manga to base season 2 on, so don’t expect anyone to even think about making season 2 until there are 4 or 5 more manga acts published.

It is my humble opinion, based on all the facts I’ve gathered, that Daisuke Sato is the primary reason HOTD stopped. It has nothing to do with the fans, the fan support is/was always there. And it has nothing to do with it doing poorly, because it actually did pretty well.

Would wide support continues to grow for HOTD. Anime licensers like Sentai Filmworks have stated that the producers in Japan know about the pent up demand for HOTD abroad. Sentai Filmworks even stated recently that HOTD was their top selling title. So we know its popular in the US.

I believe that is was an April fools joke, as people made a trailer (High school of the dead season 2)… Which wasn’t funny. People are now saying it will come out on April (season 2) … Another April fools joke maybe…

There is no release date. We have been told… (Spring) The fuck is spring, Spring could be anytime as in different countries their time shit is different…

All i’m saying is don’t get your hopes up. I personally am a Fan of High school of the dead and if anyone has some actual leads on HOTD Season two that would be great… We fans have been waiting a long time.

  6. I’m afraid, and it seems, that the series will possibly not continue. One of the reasons for this is because there isn’t much fan participation with the anime. In other words, not many people liked the anime and so therefore it will not continue. The reason i say this is because if we compare the fraction of the HOTD fans to the anime lovers, we will get a ratio of 2:6 (around), and that isn’t enough to make an anime continue to its second season. I know its painful but its the truth.

i really2 hope that they make season 2 soon..

    • mari says:

then kill the website if you don’t continue

    • Magicdude405 says:

Actually, it’s based on the fans in japan, sense this is a japanese anime,
and how many people bought it in japan, how many fans here, how many people buy it here,
it doesn’t matter a single bit, if you count only japan of that fraction it’s a 1:3

    • Rei says:

At this point it has nothing to do with the fans. It has everything to do with Daisuke Sato. The guy who wrote the story and owns it. He stopped writing it a long time ago, and since he owns it and didn’t sign it over to anyone else it just stopped. This is exactly what the guys from Madhouse, the animation studio that made season 1, were talking about in the video that this web site is so famous for. Where the commented that there would be a season 2 if they had everyones support. The everyone they were talking about was NOT the fans, they already had that, it was the person who owns the story that they were talking about. As it turns out, they did not have his support.

I completely love the first season and everything about it. although, I do wish that there was a little less fandom in the series…It just distracts from all the zombies and guts and awesomeness…and maybe add a little more drama to it. cant wait for season 2!!!!! if any of the creators are reading this PLEASE HURRY I CANT TAKE THE SUSPENSE!!!!!
