After a long 2 year hiatus, Highschool of the Dead will be returning this Spring, 2013. Fans of the series never gave up hope, and it looks like that hope will finally pay off this year! The return is revealed by these photos of the new publications for the manga’s fifth and sixth volumes which will be in full color. The wrap around band on the manga publications states that it will be returning soon. Another photo shows a full page advertisement saying that the manga is returning Spring 2013. Although currently no return date has been specified, we will keep you informed as new information on the series is revealed. Stay tuned, with the return of the manga, Highschool of the Dead Season 2 of the anime series looks like it may finally return in 2013 as well!

If you’ve come here looking for news on Season 2, here are the facts as we know them.
Basically: There currently is no season 2, it is not in production, nor there any evidence that it has even been financed.
The HOTD anime is based on the HOTD manga that started back in 2006. Since then the author of the manga has stopped writing several times causing major delays in the release of the manga. After the release of Act 29 in early 2011, there was a long 2 year hiatus. Early in 2013, news of the manga resuming in the Spring of 2013 surfaced and that triggered a firestorm of confusion as people assumed the anime would return too.
Act 30 of the manga was released in April 2013 (Which fulfills the promise of HOTD returning Spring 2013). Fans rejoiced ever so breifly as they soon learned that another hiatus was going to begin again. In the Dragon Age Monthly where Act 30 appeared, an ambiguous statement about the future of HOTD was found. Basically stating that the release of the next chapter was ‘undecided’
Season 1 of the anime is taken directly from the manga, its is not a ‘loosely based’ version of the manga. Its a nearly exact match. If a second season of HOTD were to be made, it would almost certainly be taken directly from the pages of the manga too. Unfortunately there isn’t enough manga yet to make Season 2.
Due to the lack of new manga and the fairly large investment required to make a 12 episode season of high quality anime like HOTD, the anime producers would be crazy to begin without some certainty it could be completed.
So here we sit, waiting for apx. 4 more acts of the manga to be published, which no one knows when. Then a long wait while season 2 is produced in Japan and slotted into the Japanese TV schedule.

-Daisuke Sato is the author and owner of HOTD story, Shouji Sato is the Illustrator of the manga.
-The HOTD manga is published in Japan by Fujimi Shobo in Monthly Dragon Age. And now simultaneously in the US and Canada digitally by Yen Press.
-Season 1 of the anime was produced in Japan by the animation studio Madhouse in 2010, including an OVA that was not based on the manga.

So, chapter 5 was released i read it and it was interesting….But really 3long years of waiting for season2 and i’m still waiting for it.
COme on man (the author) start making more chapters for enough material for season2!! screw your other manga/anime -_-

This is a release date for the manga not the anime… and let’s face it no one wants to read an ecchi manga… just bring out the animation hahaha
